Copper-based SCR catalysts, particularly Cu-CHA structures such as Cu-SAPO-34 and Cu-SSZ-13, are widely recognized for their superior low-temperature activity and broad temperature operating window. They are especially suitable for modern light-duty and heavy-duty diesel vehicles where stringent Euro VI or China VI emission limits must be met.
The catalyst uses a ceramic or metallic honeycomb carrier with a high-surface-area coating based on TiO₂, in which copper ions are embedded as active components. Cu-SCR catalysts excel in facilitating both the standard SCR (4NH₃ + 4NO + O₂ → 4N₂ + 6H₂O) and fast SCR reactions (2NH₃ + NO + NO₂ → 2N₂ + 3H₂O), ensuring rapid NOx reduction even at temperatures as low as 200°C. With outstanding thermal stability exceeding 650°C, Cu-SCR catalysts can be placed in tight-coupled configurations near the engine, providing highly efficient NOx conversion and resistance to deactivation from sulfur or hydrocarbon exposure.
